Capstone Turbine Corporation Releases Ultra Low Emission CR200 Product Certified to Stringent California Air Resources Board (CARB) Requirements for Digester Gas Applications

CHATSWORTH, Calif., May 25, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that it released the CR200 Medium Btu microturbine product that meets the world's most challenging global emission requirements including California's stringent waste gas emission standard.

Farm digesters and waste water treatment plants are key vertical markets for the Capstone CR200 200 kW renewable energy product. Waste gas typically refers to gas which is produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter. Producing energy from these applications using gas which is otherwise flared avoids the need to use non-renewable resources such as coal, oil, or natural gas to produce an equivalent amount of energy.

Certification to the waste gas emission standard by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) makes approved technologies such as the CR200 much easier to site in California.

Capstone microturbines are capable of burning waste gases with methane content as low as 30% which can be challenging for competing combustion technologies. The CARB waste gas emissions requirements are achieved with Capstone's low premix combustion technology inherent to the microturbine and require no exhaust after treatment.

"California farm digesters and waste water treatment plants are a great market opportunity for our products," said Jim Crouse, Capstone's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We are excited to offer our customers a product that is accepted by the State of California and supports our home state's aggressive sustainability initiatives."

"Renewable energy applications like waste water treatment plants and farm digesters are a core part of Capstone's business as governments continue to implement sweeping renewable portfolio standards," said Darren Jamison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Capstone Turbine Corporation. "Certification of the CR200 to these extremely stringent standards allows Capstone to continue to expand its market penetration into even larger projects and continues to prove that Capstone is an industry leader in ultra low combustion emissions," added Jamison.
