The Official Opening of the Greenvironment 1st commercial microgasturbine powerplant

A new chapter in bioenergy was opened with the commissioning of the first microturbine powerplant of Greenvironment (www.greenvironment.com) in Germany.  The microturbines by Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) mainly used for natural gas applications from now on also enter the fast growing European biogas market. The Greenvironment expertise and technologies concerning the treatment of biogas combined with the Capstone microturbines prove to be an excellent alternative to the currently used engines in the biogas sector.

On Friday, June 15, 2007, in the presence of 150 invited guests from industry, politics, and press, the first microturbine powerplant with waste heat fired residue digester was officially opened. The next day was organized as "open day" about 350 farmers and others in biogas interested visited the site and came for discussions with the companies involved.

Grand Opening: Aerial Tram and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)

The Capstone installation in the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) building includes five 60kW integrated Combined Heat & Power (ICHP) units with Copeland compressors, operating on natural gas.  The units provide hot water for the buildings' heating systems, and 300kW of electrical power. The design and installation were a joint effort with Interface Engineering, Siemens Building Automation, and E.C. Company. The project has been a success, and all 5 microturbines are up and running successfully.

In February 2007, the U.S. Green Building Council gave this building its coveted platinum LEED certification. LEED, short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a system that rates buildings based on their overall systainability (when evaluating buildings, the council considers everything from materials used to air quality and energy efficiency.)
